This is a fortified outpost of the kingdom of Mewar 235 kms northeast of Udaipur and 50 kms south of Kota. This impressive, rambling 18th century fort is surrounded by its own village and sits high on a rocky promontory jutting out into the River Chambal. The river is dammed downstream so is always full and looks truly beautiful all year round. The fort sits on the cliff edge and the views down to the crocodile filled river and across the plains are endless. Having only recently opened its doors to visitors, it is family run and a homely place to stay. There are terraces and shady verandahs to sit on, along with large gardens and acres of ruins to explore. The walking, riding and picnicking is second to none and exploring the surrounding village is like being in a time warp.
